Today’s Long and Short reviews prompt is: animals we’d like as pets. Ideally I’d one day like to have a more rural home (as in, no neighbors but deer) with chickens and even a horse.
WHAT have you finished reading recently? Gore Vidal’s Lincoln novel, which I quite liked.
WHAT are you reading now? All the Best, George, a collection of George HW Bush’s letters and diary entries — introduce by ‘Poppy’ himself and read by his family, including Barbara.
WHAT are you reading next? The Declaration of Independence: A Radical Experiment in Liberty, Brad Birzer. Or maybe something else. I’m still bronc-riding a new medicine this week and haven’t done any reading since (gasp) Saturday.

No neighbours but deer sounds like heaven. Where I live we unfortunately have the neighbours but we also have the woods behind our house with foxes and badgers and rabbits as well as hedgehogs and various birds. It’s so peaceful, especially early in the morning.
One of my dog-sitting houses is a rural retreat. I love sitting on their screen-in back porch and trying to spy rabbits emerging from the woodline!
Living out in the countryside that deeply sounds peaceful. My aunt lives out in the woods and often has deer in her yard. She shares pictures of them ever so often. 🙂
A friend of mine and her husband used to get so deer who were so used to them they’d just hang out right off the back porch!
I, too, hope to have a home that has deer as neighbors; and once I have that, that would mean room for things like chickens, horses, sheep, goats, mini cows…maybe more dogs.
I am with you, Stephen. Though I am not sure I could handle the work these days.
