I’ve personally never been able to retain bookmarks, even the fancy ones friends have sent me from faraway places like South Korea.

Oh, I tend to keep my bookmarks until they self destruct through wear & tear. That takes a LONG time when I use old plastic cards. These days most of my bookmarks are supplied by bookseller gifts as part of the purchase online. I have LOTS!
I am lately using the magnetic bookmarks. And dog-earing should be punished by flogging.
I have….mostly…..cured myself of the habit, largely because my book-blogging friends were so horrified at the thought of it. XD I find it’s easy to remember chapter numbers or page numbers with nice round numbers (150, 180, etc).
I love receipts because they are so thin, and free. 😆 I will sometimes stoop to squashing books face down (my primary act of youthful rebellion).
