Today’s TTT is “books with ordinal numbers in the title”. Mmkay…..
But first, a tease from Robert Parker’s Double Play:
“We need to work this out,” Burke said. “I don’t want to have to keep shooting people.”
“We got plenty.”
(1) One No, Many Yeses, Paul Kingsnorth. On global resistance to corpo-homogenity in favor of local economies. Oh, wait, “One” isn’t ordinal, it’s cardinal…
(2) The Last Man in Europe, Dennis Glover. If first is ordinal then by gosh and by golly last oughta be ordinal.
(3) The Eighth Continent, Rhett C. Bruno and Felix Savage. Hard SF on the moon. A bonafide ordinal!
(4) First in Line: Presidents, Vice Presidents, and the Pursuit of Power, Kate Anderson Brower
(5) First Family Detail, Ronald Kessler
(6) The Last Republicans: Inside the Extraordinary Relationship between George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, Mark K. Updegrove
(7) The Last Colony, John Scalzi. Part of the Old Man’s War series.
(8) The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life, David Brooks.
(9) The Last Stargazers, Emily Levesque. On modern astronomy.
(10) The First Men in the Moon, H.G. Wells
(11) The First Conspiracy: The Plot to Kill Washington, Brad Meltzer.
I agree. Last should definitely be ordinal.
Interesting list of books. You found good ones.
Thanks! I just started looking at my past book lists and writing down titles as they came up!
Ahaha ‘oh wait one is cardinal’ oh well moving right along! 😛 The Last Stargazers sounds very intriguing, not a topic I know a lot about but wouldn’t mind learning more about!
It was an interesting book — the author pointed out that MANY astronomers today have no more familiarity with the night sky than the average person on the street. They’re wholly absorbed in data and number crunching from the telescopes that actually do the sky-viewing. Kind of sad!
Oh that is kind of sad but also not very surprising 😦
so glad to have one in common!
I do think that last is considered an ordinal, as you can come in last place in a competition.
Here’s my TTT for the week: https://readbakecreate.com/first-or-last-book-titles/
i could hardly think of any books for that prompt, you rocked it 😅
I thought the same thing about “last” but instead scoured my list all the way back to 2013 to find ordinal numbers in titles of books I’ve read.
Most of your list is new to me, thanks for sharing your #TTT
Ha ha. I didn’t even attempt this prompt…
Happy TTT!

There are definitely a lot of books using the words “first” and “last” in the title!
That was me, Deb Nance at Readerbuzz.
Oops. I think my comment was not published.
Try, try again!
There are definitely a lot of books with “first “ and “last” in the titles!
I found and approved it!
I just recently watched the movie adaptation of The First Men in the Moon and it was awesome! 🙂
