Χριστός Ανέστη!

Christos anesti to my Christian readers: today is an interesting day because both the Orthodox church and the Roman church (along with its Protestant offspring) are both celebrating Pascha/Easter on the same day. So, here’s the only good thing to come out of COVID, a group chant via Zoom:

Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered!
And let them that hate Him flee from before His face
Christ is Risen from the dead
Trampling down Death by death
And upon those in the tombs
Bestowing Life

I really like the combined voices, but I also love this version, which applies the lyrics of the troparion against an Appalachian folk melody.

And in completely-different-land, I think tomorrow I am going to surrender to the fact that CJ Box is not going to let Read of England happen, and begin posting reviews for all of the Pickett books I’ve been reading.

I have a problem.

    or Воистину Воскресе!
we sing the Resurrection Troparion on many melodies, including Georgian (but another melody), and we do have also the Kentucky melody, so cool!

Happy (belated) Easter! I did not realize all the Christian branches were celebrating yesterday, that’s wonderful.

I went to Easter vigil with my sister on Saturday night and we ended with a sung Litany of the Saints, which was asking saints to pray for us ( no more and no less). The music was incredibly beautiful and I really loved it. I’m usually wary of the more Catholic aspects of modern Anglican worship, but this one just reminded me of the Christians (and especially martyrs) who came before us.

  5. Ooh I was in Greece one year for Easter and the Orthodox church had the most beautiful midnight service! I’ve never seen anyone else do.shared candle lighting but it was amazing.
