WHAT have you finished reading recently? Savage Run, C.J. Box.
WHAT are you reading now? Will finish Winterkill by CJ Box tonight; halfway through Michael Connelly’s The Late Show.
WHAT are you reading next? I think I’m recovered from the burnout and will get back to some serious reading. For Lent I’m re-reading The Confessions, this time using Anthony Esolen’s translation. However, I’m supposed to be reading The Innovators by Walter Isaacson for class.
I thought The Innovators was a fabulous book, well basically any book by this author.
For Lent, among other things, I’m reading this poetic Jewish translation of the Psalms, by Pamela Greenberg: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7953629-the-complete-psalms
Reading texts that you think you know by heart in another translation always makes you discover new elements of the text, right?
Beautiful version.
Blessed Lent!
You as well! Have a ‘great’ one. 😉 I keep looking for an English language translation of the Psalms in verse, just to see how that affects their life off the page.
Have you checked this page? You might fins some references here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrical_psalter#Sternhold_and_Hopkins_('Old_Version‘)
Hopkins might be a good one.
John Milton has translated a dozen of them too
Thank you!!
Something related, Psalm 77 being read in The Chosen.
I have not watched The Chosen but I enjoy its clips that I have seen.
Thanks for sharing. I have not watched it either. But the title The Chosen reminds me of the great novel by Chaim Potok! To read if you haven’t yet – and all his novels, as you are at it!
I’ve read…..four Potoks to date! The Chosen, The Promise, Davida’s Harp, and My Name is Asher Lev. 🙂
You read remarkably quickly. I put Winterkill down because I had other reading obligations, even though I had started it some time ago. I am looking forward to your review and hope to return to it soon.
I read before work, at lunch, and after work — constantly. I read a lot of Winter Kill just sitting in the yard after work enjoying fresh air and sunlight!
I envy your diligence. Unfortunately, reading in my backyard or on my front balcony is not an option due to Chicago’s March winter weather.
Joining WWW Wednesday for the first time. Kind of a fun meme.
