August 2024 in Review

Activist art. Lasted almost 22 hours.

Well, happy September, folks. There have been a couple of mornings in the past few weeks when the temperature wasn’t already over 90(32) as soon as I walked out the door, so here’s hoping summer’s wrath is abating. Not that it’s really going to cool down: one could call this season CHAOS, given how unpredictable it will be until January. (And even then, it may very well be 70 degrees with tornados, as we learned in 2023!) On the reading front, I enjoyed “Blast II the Past” again, mostly for California Diaries. Progress on my reading challenges was fairly dismal, including SF book bingo, with the exception of Readin’ Dixie.

Favorite Quote/Highlight:

“Your vocation is not your friend. It’s not a consolation for someone you lost once, or even a way of passing the time. It doesn’t care whether you’re happy or sad. You must not betray it, Marge.” (Miss Benson’s Beetle, Rachel Joyce)

Classics Club, The Science Survey, Science Fiction Book Bingo:
…….

Readin’ Dixie
The Dixie Frontier: A Social History, Everett Dick
Historic Pensacola, John Clune & Margo Springfield

The Unreviewed
Family Unfriendly: How Our Culture Makes Having and Raising Kids Much Harder Than it Needs to Be, Timothy Carney. Just finished this one.

New Acquisitions:
Historic Pensacola, which I immediately read.
First into Nagasaki, ditto.

September Plans:

Mm…..give CC, the Survey and SF bingo some love. No themes planned beyond that. I’m going to be visiting Pensacola on the weekend of the 20th!

haha I appreciate you having Celsius in parentheses because I don’t understand Fahrenheit, lol. Wow you’ve been having intense heat, I hope it cools down a bit for you. I feel like this summer has been Chaos too, I keep not knowing how to dress for it 😂😂
Good luck with your reading goals this month & have fun on your visit to Pensacola, never been there myself.
